Final thoughts

Try to enjoy the experience of talking to expert scholars!

Remember this advice isn't official. There is no guarantee it will reflect your experience because university applications can change between years. Check the official Cambridge and Oxford websites for more accurate information on this year's application format and the required tests.

Also, someone else's experience may not reflect your own. Most interviews are more like conversations than tests and like, any conversation, they are quite interactive.

Interview Format

Test taken: National Admissions Test for Law (LNAT)
Number of interviews: 2
Time between interviews: A day
Length of interviews: Around an hour
Online interview: Yes

What happened in your interview? How did you feel?

My first interview was on understanding statutes, so I was given some pre-reading for around ten minutes. Then, the professors were asking questions relating to the statute, whether I understand it and if the laws would be applicable in certain situations.

The second one was testing my understanding of cases, so I was given two different judgments on the same case and the professors would ask if I understand the principles of law they base their judgment on. Then they started changing the facts of the case and asking whether the judgment would still be the same.

How did you prepare for your interviews?

The interviews don't expect you to know ANYTHING about law - I didnt really prepare that much. What I found useful was watching sample Oxford Law interviews on YouTube an pausing them and trying to respond. This can be really good preparation, especially if English isn't your first language or you havent talked about Law a lot.

If you took a test, how did you prepare?

What advice would you give to future applicants?

Firstly, talk a lot! Don't be silent, try to construct a proper argument and make a lot of links to the statute/case. If you're really passionate about your subject, you’re going to have fun! I remember what my mum told me when I was heading out for the interview - "in the worst case scenario, you will just have a chat about your favourite subject with the best scholars in the world.” Thinking about it this way, its already a flex to be talking to Oxford professors at all!
