Remember this advice isn't official. There is no guarantee it will reflect your experience because university applications can change between years. Check the official Cambridge and Oxford websites for more accurate information on this year's application format and the required tests.

Also, someone else's experience may not reflect your own. Most interviews are more like conversations than tests and like, any conversation, they are quite interactive.

Interview Format

Test taken: Natural Sciences Admissions Assessment (NSAA)
Number of interviews: 2
Time between interviews: ~1 hour
Length of interviews: ~30 mins
Online interview: Yes

What happened in your interview? How did you feel?

There was interpreting graphs/studies, discussing stressful scenarios and how to deal with them, and talking through a specific clinical case! Make sure you understand the question before answering it - I didn't and they had to stop me after about a minute and repeat it for me! But don't worry if that happens, I got in anyway because I was able to keep going and show resilience. Just make sure to keep your confidence and show them what you CAN do, don't worry about what you can't.

How did you prepare for your interviews?

The best thing I did was paying attention during work experience, making notes and researching wEx things I didn't understand! Similar ideas then came up on my interview and I was able to explain my ideas with confidence. I think they want you to understand the most common scenarios and problems vets face, so doing role-play in advance also helped! I also am glad I paid attention in Maths in Year 12 as it did come up!

If you took a test, how did you prepare?

"The Ultimate NSAA Collection" book. Went through the specification, highlighted what I wasn't confident with, reviewed that content, and then tested myself over and over again! A lot of the relevant content will be fresh in your mind from Year 12 tests so review those too. Make sure to do TIMED practice, as time pressure is key to this exam.

What advice would you give to future applicants?

Don't procrastinate interview preparation! If you're really passionate about your subject, you'll enjoy doing it a little bit every day. Personally whenever I had some time to myself (e.g. in the shower) I would just run through exciting things I'd learnt and what sort of questions I might be able to answer about them. Definitely for a vocational degree like Vet Med you need to consider the responsibilities and difficulties of the profession and how you personally will deal with those.
