Final thoughts

Prepare to talk about your personal statement in detail

Remember this advice isn't official. There is no guarantee it will reflect your experience because university applications can change between years. Check the official Cambridge and Oxford websites for more accurate information on this year's application format and the required tests.

Also, someone else's experience may not reflect your own. Most interviews are more like conversations than tests and like, any conversation, they are quite interactive.

What happened in your interview? How did you feel?

I was so nervous and kept calling Socrates 'Aristotle' and having other word mix ups, but the interviewers were really kind and it was around quite enjoyable. We talked a lot about the stuff on my personal statement, like fundamentalism and extremism, and I was given a picture to analyse in one of the interviews too.

How did you prepare for your interviews?

Read and reread the books on my personal statement, they asked me a lot about these so that was definitely the most important preparation.

If you took a test, how did you prepare?

The practice test available online.

What advice would you give to future applicants?

Make sure you know your personal statement, they went quite deep into it for me and even asked me to define one of the words I'd used. I don't think you can really anticipate much else of what they're going to talk about because the subject is so broad, and they will throw in a few random questions. At the end of the day they're really nice people and so just enjoy the discussion!
