Final thoughts

The interviewers are looking for people who can convincingly argue their points

Remember this advice isn't official. There is no guarantee it will reflect your experience because university applications can change between years. Check the official Cambridge and Oxford websites for more accurate information on this year's application format and the required tests.

Also, someone else's experience may not reflect your own. Most interviews are more like conversations than tests and like, any conversation, they are quite interactive.

What happened in your interview? How did you feel?

We talked about why I'd chosen Cambridge, and why my college. Then we went through a scenario question and argued different points. I had to talk about a legal topic for between 5-6 minutes too at the end of my first interview.

My second interview had preparation time beforehand, where I had 30 minutes to read a piece of legislation and apply it to a scenario. I then read these out in the interview and expanded on them. In both interviews I felt calm and relaxed, and the interviewers and atmosphere were great!

How did you prepare?

I looked on the Law faculty website for example papers, and watched the Cambridge university YouTube channel for advice.

Looking back, what advice would you give to your past self?

Although it may be difficult, try not to go in with stereotypes about the interview process. Treat it like an academic conversation and be prepared to back up what you're saying. I spoke to my sixth form for advice, and talking through what to expect with them really helped to keep me calm going into the interviews. The interviewers aren't looking for someone who is perfect, they're looking for people with a passion for the subject and a drive to succeed, who convincingly argue their points and would make a great addition to the college!
