Remember this advice isn't official. There is no guarantee it will reflect your experience because university applications can change between years. Check the official Cambridge and Oxford websites for more accurate information on this year's application format and the required tests.

Also, someone else's experience may not reflect your own. Most interviews are more like conversations than tests and like, any conversation, they are quite interactive.

What happened in your interview? How did you feel?

I was given a few pages of information about a human rights issue, which we discussed in the interview, analysing the scenario and the various legal issues that might arise. I was also asked about work experience I had mentioned doing in my interview.

How did you prepare?

There are some practice CLT papers online, but really I just prepared by ensuring I could develop an argument on both sides for many given topics, because the purpose of the law test was for them to see how you construct your arguments.

Looking back, what advice would you give to your past self?

Don’t pressure yourself to be perfect in the interview; that’s not what they are looking for. They just want to know you are genuinely interested in the law and have a problem-solving attitude. I did read a lot of university chat rooms to prepare for the interview and test, but I don’t think I’d recommend doing that as a lot of the information was inaccurate, potentially because the advice or information was years old. Also try to enjoy your interview - it’s okay to be nervous but it’s also really exciting picking apart and discussing the subject you are going to be studying for three years.
